Summit Police Welcome Three New Officers To The Force

All three of the new officers grew up in New Jersey.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Police Department swore in three new officers on Monday, the city said in an announcement.

Officers Nathan Bueno, Brian Cavanagh, and Elio Siragusa were joined by Mayor Elizabeth Fagan and Summit Police Chief Ryan Peters at the official ceremony held in the Council Chamber Court Room.

Officer Bueno, of Wallington, is a veteran of the United States Marines and used to be a member of the Special Operations Group at Hudson County Jail. He also studied Criminal Justice at York College in Pennsylvania.

Bueno attended Bergen County Police Academy and graduated in 2024.

Prior to joining Summit, Bueno worked in the Courts Division of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office.

Officer Cavanagh was an intern in the Crime Scene Unit of the Union County Sheriff's Office and is currently in the Alternate Route Program with the Morris County Police Academy. He will graduate on Friday.

Cavanagh grew up in New Providence and graduated from Seton Hall University with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice.

Officer Siragusa served as a Class 1 Police Officer for the Lavallette Police Department in 2023 and 2024. He graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in 2025 and then rejoined the Lavallette Police Department of the Patrol Bureau.

Siragusa grew up in Toms River and graduated with a degree in business after studying at both Montclair State University and Florida Atlantic University.
