Council Expected to Appoint Residents to Board on Votee Park Contamination

The Teaneck is likely to name members to an advisory board tonight created to offer input on dealing with soil contamination discovered in Milton Votee Park last year.

A resolution to name a chairperson and members to the board is on the council agenda for tonight’s meeting, with public input beginning at 8 p.m.

Since the board’s , the township has reopened the 40-acre park after . A small section in the southwest area contaminated with high levels of lead remains fenced off.

Officials must now choose a path forward in dealing with levels of soil contaminants found throughout the park.

The town’s central park was ordered closed Dec. 14 when officials were alerted to elevated levels of benzo(a)pyrene and PCBs under Votee’s soccer field. The contamination was discovered in tests required as part of a project using state Green Acres funds to install artificial turf on the fields. More contamination was found after .
