Councilwoman Raising Money for Reward in Joan Davis Murder

Councilwoman Lizette Parker is hoping Teaneck residents will pitch in to help find the killer of a council meeting regular.

Parker is working with others in town to raise money for a reward in the murder of 74-year-old Joan Davis, who was discovered stabbed to death in her Alpine Drive home Aug. 17. Davis had been bound and the house set on fire.

Checks can be made out to Crime Stoppers, with a note that money be used for the Davis case. The reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the killing. 

Parker said the exact amount of the reward would depend on donations, but she hoped it would be a "significant" amount. 

Residents at the Township Council meeting Tuesday said they wanted an update on the case, which is being handled by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Councilwoman Barbara Toffler said the murder has residents skittish about speaking out in front of council. Davis was often very critical of the council.

"There are people in this town that are buying mace," Toffler said. "I know because I'm one of them." 

Former Mayor Jacqueline Kates is also working on the fundraising campaign.
