Teaneck Road office building evacuated after an unknown chemical leaks on UPS worker's hands.

A United Parcel Service worker was hospitalized and a Teaneck Road office building evacuated after a package the man was delivering leaked cleaning chemicals on his hands Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The UPS worker was treated at Holy Name Hospital with "a slight skin irritation" after a small spill, said police spokesman Detective Lt. Glenn O'Reilly.  No other injuries were reported at the scene.

UPS spokeswoman Ronna Branch said the unidentified employee was taken to the hospital as a precaution and later released.

The office building, at 1086 Teaneck Road, near Selvage Avenue, was evacuated for about two hours while firefighters and members of the Bergen County Hazardous Materials Response Unit checked the substance.

The UPS truck had pulled into the building's parking lot to make a delivery when the spill occurred.  Police were working to track down the package's intended recipient, but did not consider the incident suspicious.
