Man Sexually Assaulted Child, Told Victim To Delete Texts: Bergen County Prosecutor
An Englewood man was charged with 6 counts of sexual assault for crimes against a minor, Bergen County prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An Englewood man sexually assaulted a child on more than one occasion, then hindered the investigation by telling the victim to delete sexual texts, prosecutors said Monday.
Mauro Alves-Ribeiro, 60, of Englewood was charged on Friday with sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child, and hindering an investigation, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said that on Thursday, the Englewood police reached out to them regarding the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Englewood.

Prosecutors determined that Alves-Ribeiro sexually assaulted and endangered the child in an Englewood home on more than one occasion.
Investigators also determined that the suspect "attempted to hinder the investigation by instructing the juvenile to delete text message conversations between him and the victim that were sexual in nature," prosecutors said.

Alves-Ribeiro was charged with six counts of second-degree sexual assault in total, as well as the other charges.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
