Fugitive Indicted in Englewood Killing
Accused murderer may have fled to Guatemala, report says.

A former Englewood man has been indicted on a murder charge for allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend 14 years ago.
Fredy Bustamante, who remains at large, fled the area shortly after killing Elana Gonzales in June 1998, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in a statement. A friend reported Gonzales missing and city police found her body days later in the basement of a West Palisade Avenue apartment building where Bustamante lived.
Authorities believe Bustamante fled to Guatemala after the strangling, according to a 2010 Record report.
Anyone with information can call the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office at 201-226-5532 or local police.
