McNerney Orders County Flags Flown at Half-Staff to Honor Teaneck Officer

Police Officer John Abraham's funeral is planned for Saturday. Thousands of officers are expected from across the region are expected to attend.

Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney has ordered flags at all county buildings to be flown at half-staff until Sunday in honor of Township Police Officer John Abraham, who was killed when his patrol car crashed into a utility pole early Monday.

McNerney also encouraged other municipalities to lower their flags for the fallen officer.

"Officer Abraham paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving the citizens of Teaneck," McNerney said in a news release. "To honor his memory and his family, I am ordering all county flags on county property to be flown at half-staff. This is about doing what is right for one of Bergen's finest."

Abraham's funeral is planned for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Anastasia, 1095 Teaneck Road.

Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Volk-Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road.

Thousands of officers from across the region are expected to turn out for the funeral, said Capt. Robert Carney.

Teaneck Road will be closed for the funeral between Cedar Lane and Forest Avenue from approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Side streets in the area may also be impacted. Entrance and exit ramps of Route 4 will also be closed, Carney said.
