Men Break Into Bergenfield Home While Resident Sleeps

Borough police seek tips in daytime burglary.

BERGENFIELD -- Two men broke into a South Prospect Avenue home while a resident was asleep upstairs late Wednesday morning, police said.

The resident, 25, told authorities he was sleeping upstairs when he heard loud noises from the first floor, according to borough police. About 10 minutes later, a man forced open the resident's bedroom door. 

Police said the two men then fled in a dark-colored vehicle and the resident was able to get a description of the two.

One was described as a 6-foot-tall black man with an “athletic” build, wearing a gray hoodie and dark-colored pants, police said. A mask partially covered his face. The other was described only as a black man.

Jewelry was taken, police reported.

Bergenfield police asked anyone who noticed anything suspicious near South Prospect Avenue and Dudley Drive between 11 and 11:35 a.m. to call detectives at 201-387-4000 x-4011.
