Minor Injuries Reported After Motorists Hit Deer on Route 4

The crash came hours before state officials warned drivers to be alert for deer near roadways.

One person suffered minor injuries after hitting a deer in the eastbound lanes of Route 4, near Teaneck Road Tuesday morning.  The impact threw the animal across the highway, striking another motorist in the westbound lanes, police said.

Bergen County police said injuries from the 9 a.m. accident were not serious and the accident was quickly cleared.

The crash came only hours before the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection issued a press release warning motorists of deer-related collisions.

Deer migrate and mate during the fall months, and white-tail deer are entering their annual rut, DEP wildlife officials said.
