Patch Readers Sound Off on Stop Signs in Teaneck
We asked Patch readers if their neighborhoods could use more stop signs. Here are some intersections they flagged as hazardous.

Teaneck, NJ - If you’ve noticed an intersection in your neighborhood that could use a stop sign, you’re not alone.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that one-third of all intersection crashes in the United States occur at crossings controlled by stop signs. While they aren’t a perfect solution to dangerous intersections, studies have shown that installing all-way signs can reduce accidents by 40 to 60 percent.
When we asked Patch readers in Teaneck where they wanted to see a stop sign, some asked for stoplights while others just requested that drivers stop at the signs that are already in place. That’s not too much to ask according to a report from the Federal Highway Administration that showed the simple, and cheap, addition of “Stop Ahead” wording on roadways reduced accidents at controlled intersections by 15 percent.

We realize that no one knows the roads in Teaneck better than its residents. Here’s what Patch readers shared with us about their neighborhood’s intersections:
- "Not sure about that. For one thing, they should put a stoplight in front of the FDU library. Too many car accidents and pedestrians hit."
- "Corner of Beech and Hillside. Too many cars speed through to beat the lights and traffic on Degraw."
- "There's a stop sign on Beverly and Garrison, but still too many accidents because some people don't actually make full stops and/or become too impatient. Maybe they should make it a four-way stop."
- "Anything along Sussex"
- "No left turn sign between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on Bogert St. to Teaneck Rd. would be ideal."
- "Queen Anne Rd. where it goes under Rte. 4 and then intersects with the entrance/exit off of Rte. 4. There is a yield sign now, but that does not make people stop and check traffic."
- "Every intersection on North Ave. between Larch Ave. and American Legion Dr. Lots of people cut through there to avoid traffic on Cedar Ln. and on their way to Stop and Shop."
