Resident Slams Council, Media On Gun Issue
Violent video games and movies among causes for gun crime, resident says.

A Teaneck resident has called the town council's recent resolution backing new gun regulation and "mainstream media" coverage of the issue "shameful."
"To make it easy for everyone to understand, the proposed legislation essentially tells criminals that breaking the law is illegal," resident Rob Ernst wrote in a letter published Thursday by the Teaneck Suburbanite. "These laws will only hurt the law abiding citizens, who are already at a significant disadvantage in the Garden State due to the second most draconian gun laws in the country."
The letter also says the public was "uninformed" and "easily manipulated" regarding the gun issue. Violent video games, television shows and movies were among the true causes of gun crime, according to Ernst's letter.

Prompted by calls from residents in the Bergen County Coalition Against Gun Violence, Teaneck's council passed a resolution Feb. 5 supporting a host of proposed gun regulations. Residents have organized vigils on Cedar Lane and campaigned for gun control measures following the shooting massacre that left 20 children dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
