A 12-screen AMC Loews movie theater in Ridgefield Park has closed, but a new upgraded theater is planned at the Challenger Road location, according to a published report. "AMC was unable to come to an agreement with the landlord on lease renewal terms and unfortunately, we were forced to close," a company spokesman told the Ridgefield Park Patriot newspaper. Local officials told the newspaper <a href="http://www.northjersey.com/community/207378831_Ridgefield_Park_AMC_Loews_closed_without_notice.html?page=all" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">a renovated theater was planned at the popular movie house</a>.  The building's new owner, Starplex, plans to <a href="http://www.northjersey.com/news/207433601_Movie_theaters_close__re-open_as_new_companies_move_in_to_renovate.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">invest about $5 million</a> to renovate the space, a spokeswoman told NorthJersey.com. Upgrades include larger screens, leather reclining seats and a new sound system. The company might also add a bar, the report sai.  The Texas-based Starplex has locations across the country, including one in East Brunswick. The movie theater's closure comes as a new owner is working to renovate and reopen a theater on Cedar Lane in Teaneck.
