Route 4 Tree-Pruning to Continue Thursday

Work has been blamed for major delays on Route 4.

Public Service Electric and Gas company tree-pruning on Route 4, that has caused major traffic delays through Teaneck, will continue Thursday, with more work planned along the highway next week.

Tree-pruning is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Route 4 eastbound in the Teaneck-Englewood area, said company spokeswoman Karen Johnson. Crews on Tuesday will move east on Route 4 to the Fort Lee-area.

Crews were working near Alfred Avenue Wednesday, leading to traffic delays through Teaneck. County police assigned to the project have closed one eastbound lane.

The work has led to motorist complaints and caused backups extending through Hackensack.

“We’re trying to get in and out of there as quickly and safely as we can,” Johnson said. “It’s critical work.”
