#SeniorStrong: Seniors Band Together To Feed Holy Name Workers

Through its new #SeniorStrong movement, Green Mountain Tours is empowering the mature population and working to give back.

TEANECK, NJ — One company is reminding area senior citizens to stay #SeniorStrong during the new coronavirus outbreak, and it's tapping its customer base to give back to health care workers.

The idea for #SeniorStrong was created by the owners of Green Mountain Tours, a Mamaroneck, New York-based travel company that organizes trips for people 55-years-old and older.

Because the travel company is unable to book or participate in trips during the months of April, May and June, it's going digital and urging area seniors to think of the future.

In a video posted compilation to Green Mountain's YouTube page, seniors share what makes them #SeniorStrong and list a few of the things they look forward to doing when isolation orders are lifted.

The list includes things like seeing Broadway shows, drinking cocktails with friends and getting back in shape with Zumba classes. The video also features the family members of area seniors sharing how they've been inspired by their elders.

One way seniors are showing their strength is by donating to a hospital giving program. According to a release from Green Mountain, its customers are encouraged to donate to Tommy Fox's Public House in Bergenfield, New Jersey.

Tommy Fox's owner takes the funds raised and uses them to serve hot meals to healthcare workers at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, Green Mountain said.

In one day, Green Mountain and its customers raised enough money to provide a week's worth of hot dinners for the hospital's frontline team, the company said. Fox himself delivered the meals to the hospital.

"Senior strong, to me, means we can pull together and overcome any crisis," one main said in the #SeniorStrong video from Green Mountain.
