Holocaust Memorial Proposed in Teaneck Park

A proposal to build a Holocaust memorial and tolerance education center in a section of Andreas Park was met with mixed reactions at Tuesday's council meeting. 

The preliminary plan calls for a two-story education center with virtual exhibits at a carriage house in the park's northern end. A small reflective pool memorializing the Holocaust would be constructed nearby.

Teaneck Firefighters Honored for Rescuing Dog

Two Teaneck firefighters were recognized by the town council Tuesday for saving a dog that survived a two-alarm blaze on Ester Avenue earlier this month.  

Firefighters Gregory Wagner and Corey Goodall found the frightened pooch named Lulu in the attic after flames broke out in an upstairs kitchen March 2, officials said.

Trial to Begin in Teaneck Rabbi Sex Abuse Case

Prosecutors plan to fly two Israeli boys to the United States to testify in the trial of a Teaneck rabbi who allegedly molested the teens while they stayed with him during a scholarship program, northjersey.com reported. 

The trial of Rabbi Uzi Rivlin, 65, is set for next month in Hackensack. Rivlin was charged in 2011 with sexually abusing the boys in 2009 and 2010. 

DPW Workers Unearth Hidden History in Teaneck

Three public works staffers clearing a tree downed by Hurricane Sandy unearthed a long-hidden piece of Teaneck history under a stump on the Municipal Green Friday.  

The DPW crew discovered a 1935 plaque, installed by Teaneck Chapter 218 of the Order of the Eastern Star, marking the town's 40th birthday under the fallen Pin Oak tree. Teaneck is now 118 years old. 

Teaneck Details Rules for New Dog Park

The Township Council has given initial approval to an ordinance that would allow unleashed dogs in a section of Phelps Park. 

The move is another step needed before Teaneck can open its off-leash dog run in the River Road park. Under the ordinance, owners would not be allowed to leave their pooches unattended and not all of the town's more than 1,000 dogs would be permitted in the park.
