Teaneck Peace Vigil Collecting Food, Supplies for Military Families

Group calls for end to veterans affairs agency backlog

The following is a letter to the editor:

During the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan, yellow ribbons saying, “Support the troops” were everywhere. Unfortunately, nearly one million veterans are now waiting over one year to get approved for disability checks! Other veterans are unable to find housing or jobs. Many military families are hurting. That our country would allow this to happen to our troops and veterans is a disgrace. The Teaneck Peace Vigil is calling on you to call or write the President (202-456-1111) or call your member of Congress (877- 429-0678). Tell them: Support our veterans! End the VA backlog!

The Teaneck Peace Vigil is conducting a food and supply drive for military families. We are collecting the following: hot and cold cereals, pasta, spaghetti sauce, soups, peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, coffee, paper towels, and diapers. Please ask your religious, community, labor, PTA, student, or other organization to participate. Bring supplies to the Teaneck Peace Vigil on Wednesday, May 29, our special Memorial Week vigil, National Guard Armory, Liberty Road and Teaneck Road, from 4:30-6:00 pm. The supplies will be sent to the Ridgewood Rotary Club food pantry for military families. Please - support the troops!
