Teen Driver Who Killed Teaneck Mom Was High, Blew Stop Signs, Cops Say
The teen who crashed into a car driven by Dymond Fryson (pictured) in Teaneck was using drugs and faces new charges, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County teen who was charged in a hit-and-run crash that left a Teaneck mom dead is facing new charges, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Alexander L. Vargas, 18, of Bogota, was 17 when he struck a Nissan Rogue driven by Dymond T. Fryson, 40, in January. Fryson was returning home from dropping her daughter at school, her husband had said.
Vagas fled on foot after the Jan. 26 crash and was taken into custody by Teaneck police, authorities said.

Fryson, who lived in Teaneck with her husband — a school principal in the Bronx — died the next day.
Investigators said Vargas "was operating his vehicle recklessly as he disregarded several stop signs while speeding at approximately 60 m.p.h. in a residential zone, and was under the influence of marijuana."

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, he was waived into adult court and charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and third-degree endangering an injured victim.
A first appearance was held in Bergen County Superior Court that same day, and Vargas was ordered released on home detention, prosecutors said.
'Expecting Justice'
Back in February, Fryson's husband, Dr. Isaiah Brown, described her as "an advocate for doing the right thing" and hoped justice would be served.
Fryson was the mother of a teenage daughter and a 9-year-old, and was guardian to her niece, he said.
