Weinberg Offers Support for Limiting Ammo Magazine Capacity

Leader says assembly will not move on senate legislation unless ammunition limit is included, according to report.

Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg said Friday she would back a bill to shrink the capacity of ammunition magazines from 15 to 10 rounds, the Star-Ledger reported.

Stephen Sweeney, the State Senate president, didn't include the magazine limit in a package of gun control legislation headed to the senate's Law and Public Safety committee, the report said. There has been no action on the magazine-limiting proposal.

Weinberg said a hearing set for Tuesday was only the start of a process.

Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald said the Assembly would not move forward on the Senate's gun bills if they did not include the lower ammo limit, according to the newspaper report.

Weinberg has been pushing for a host of new gun control measures and urged residents to lobby for the legislation at a recent forum in Ridgewood.
