The text messages claim to be from the NJ Motor Vehicles Commission, authorities said.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — If you have received a text message claiming you have unpaid traffic fines or tickets, ignore it, Ocean County authorities are warning.

The text messages are fraud and an attempt to scam money, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and several police departments said.

The texts claim to be from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, but the NJMVC does not send out text messages regarding violations or fines, the sheriff's office said.
