A 79-year-old Toms River man was airlifted to a trauma center following a Wednesday morning accident at Hickory and Vermont avenues in the Pleasant Plains section of the township.
The two vehicle crash occurred when police say a minivan travelling northbound on Vermont collided with a 2003 mercury that was westbound on Hickory street.
The driver of the Mercury, the 79-year-old whose name was not released, was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune after being extricated from the vehicle by Pleasant Plains Fire Company, said Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
The driver of the 2006 Chrysler minivan, Jose Mojica, 52, of Church Road in Toms River, was taken to Community Medical Center.
Toms River Police traffic safety officers Frank Palino and Mark Nater, as well as the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, are investigating.
