Toms River Woman, 72, Has Purse Stolen At Shopping Center

Two males approached woman in supermarket parking lot

Police say a 72-year-old Toms River woman had her purse stolen while she was placing her bags in her vehicle after going grocery shopping on Sunday.

The victim, whose name was not released, had been shopping at the Pathmark Store on Route 9 at 1 p.m. on Sunday when the incident occurred, Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

The victim reported that she was about to unload her groceries from her shopping cart into her car when a vehicle with two males pulled up to her and asked for her help. As she approached the vehicle, the passenger grabbed her purse from the cart and drove off to Route 9 southbound, Mastronardy said.

Investigating Officer Steve Austin reported that the suspects were white males, with the passenger wearing a long sleeve royal blue shirt operating an older faded black passenger car.
