'Vest-A-Cop' Program Coming to Toms River on Monday
Fundraiser will take place at Toms River Pizza Hut restaurant

Toms River police officers will participate in the "Vest-A-Cop" program later this month in order to raise funds for officers to purchase bulletproof vests.
During the Sept. 30 event, township police officers will wait tables at the Pizza Hut, while a portion of the profits gained by Pizza Hut, along with all tips and monetary donations, are placed in a fund that is used to purchase the vests.
There will also be a dunk tank and entertainment, including:
- DJ Mike West
- Glitzy the Clown
- Scott the Music Man
The Toms River department does not include bulletproof vests as part of officers' uniforms, said Ptl. Andy Chencharik, who is organizing the event. The vests cost between $800 to $1,200 each and must be replaced every five years, he said.
The fundraiser will also include various events conducted in the parking lot such as fingerprinting for children, a DJ and a band.
The event will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Pizza Hut, 211 Route 37 East.
