Voter Turnout 'Steady' in Toms River

50 percent participation expected

Toms River residents are making it to the polls Tuesday to vote in local, county and state elections.

Turnout so far has been "steady," said Mark Mutter, township clerk.

Mutter said he had visited numerous polling places in town this morning.

According to township statistics, in 2009, the last gubernatorial election, the Toms River turnout was 48.36 percent, said Mutter. He's likewise expecting turnout around 50 percent this year.

This year, seats on the township council and school board are up for grabs, as well as seats on the county freeholder board, sheriff and surrogate. The 10th district legislators are up for re-election as well.
