2 Tri-Boro Residents at Boston Marathon; Both Confirmed Safe
Two explosions were reported near the finish line Monday.
The two Tri-Boro area residents registered to run in the Boston Marathon, where two explosions were reported near the finish line shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, are safe.
Karen Auteri, 31, of Bloomingdale, and Joseph R. Bellantoni, 51, of Kinnelon, were among 562 New Jersey residents who signed up to run the marathon.
Auteri contacted Patch to confirm that she is well and in the process of contacting her family and friends. She stated that she finished her race about an hour before the explosions occurred.

Bellantoni's brother emailed Patch with the news that the runner, who is blind, was in the race and was unharmed. He is expected to return to Kinnelon Tuesday.
According to National Public Radio, more than 23,000 people run in the Boston Marathon each year.

The Boston Police Department said three were dead and more than 100 injured from the explosions.
