30-Year Sentence For Morris Man Who Murdered His Father

Travis Hofstetter of Kinnelon pleaded guilty to 2015 crime.

Kinnelon, N.J. – The Kinnelon teen who shot and killed his father in their home has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with no parole eligibility, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Travis Hofstetter, now 20, was sentenced Monday in Superior Court in Morristown after pleading guilty to the crime late last year.

Police arrived at a Wedgewood Drive home in the borough at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 for a report of an unknown medical emergency. Upon arrival, they found James Hofstetter, 57, dead from gunshot wounds, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

An investigation led to a search for Hofstetter’s son, Travis Hofstetter, 18, who was located a short time later by the Hardyston Township Police near the Skylands Ice World on Route 23 in Stockholm, New Jersey, Knapp said.

Hofstetter eventually pleaded guilty to one count of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
