Kinnelon Junior Police Academy Teaches Kids Teamwork, Safety

Kids tour jail, learn how to unravel a hose and more.

Firefighters always work in pairs.

That is just one thing the 19 participants in this year's learned from the on Thursday when several volunteer firefighters visited the kids at

The academy is hosted by the each summer and allows kids who are interested in criminal justice and public safety to explore the different elements of those jobs. This year, the kids were visited by the Passaic County Bomb Squad and took a tour of the Morris County jail and Morris County Police Academy.

On Thursday, the kids got to explore an Atlantic Health helicopter from Morristown Medical Center as well. The kids will "graduate" from the weeklong program Friday afternoon.

The program is run by three Kinnelon police officers, with assistance from four junior police instructors who are graduates from the program. This year, the Bloomingdale Police Department
