Pedestrian Critical After Struck By Car on Route 46

Police seek information on male victim's identity.

An unidentified male pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Route 46 in Wayne Saturday night, said.

The pedestrian is described as a black male between the ages of 55 and 65 years old, about 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall and with a thin build, police said.

Andriy Royik, 21, of Melrose Park, Pa., was driving his Acura TL westbound on Route 46 when he struck the pedestrian near Fairfield Road Saturday at about 9 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian remained unconscious when he was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he's listed in critical condition, police said. Royik was not injured in the crash, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wayne Police Traffic Bureau and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
