Essex County Election Results Roundup

Several Essex County towns had hotly contested races for municipal and Board of Education seats throughout the county today. Here is a roundup of today’s election results around Essex County.

In Maplewood, Democrats Victor Luca and Angel R. Bob Perez were elected to two 3-year terms, surpassing challengers Kurt H Kiley, an Independent, and India R. Larrier, also a Democrat.

Elizabeth A. Baker, Maureen E. Jones, Donna Smith were the winners in the Maplewood Board of Education Election, while Godwin Molokwu failed to win a seat on the town’s Board of Ed.

In Bloomfield, Ward One was taken by Elias N. Chalet (D), who beat Kevin Bumpas (R) 1486 to 627 voted. Ward Two was one by Nicholas Joanow (D) who beat Richard J. Galioto (R) 2262 to 1051 votes. A third Democrat was victorious in Ward 3, as Carlos Bernard ran circles around Matthew Basile, where the final vote was 1552 to 468.

Michael Heller, Gildalina Morales, and Emily Smith came out on top in tonight’s election, where eight local residents vied for just three 3-year-terms on the Bloomfield Board of Education. In addition, Ruth Hidalgo beat Charito Agnes P. Ortillo in a race for one 1-year unexpired Board of Ed term.

In Nutley, Lisa Danchak-Martin, Salvatore Ferraro, and Frederick Scalera were each elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education.

In Cedar Grove, Christine E. Dye beat Kenneth Horwitz for a 3-year-term seat on the Board of Education, 1,678 to 660 votes.

The Verona Board of Education race came down to just 125 votes, with Lisa Freschi surpassing four other candidates for the single open Board of Ed seat.

In Belleville, Patricia Dolan and Ralph Vellon each won a 3-year term on the Belleville Board of Education, beating Gabrielle Bennet, Erika Jacho, and Christine Lamparello.
