Police Blotter: Resident Hangs up on Attempted Fraud

The following information has been provided by Verona Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 24: Verona police are investigating a report of malicious mischief at Hillwood Terrace.

According to police, an unknown tenant placed a substance on the carpet in one of the hallways.

Management was reviewing store security video to determine who was involved.

Feb. 24: A dispute between a customer and an employee at a Bloomfield Avenue was investigated by police at 11:42 a.m. The customer left the area without further incident after speaking with police.

Feb. 25: A patron at Platinum Fitness told police he hung his jacket on the coat rack with his keys in his pocket. After finishing his workout, the patron said his coat was missing.

Feb. 25: A GNC store employee told police two men entered the store and while one of the men distracted her at the counter, the other man took nearly $43 worth of merchandise from a rear shelf and left the store.

Feb. 26: Verona police are looking for the person who stole an unlocked 2010 Lexus from an On The Run restaurant.

The owner reported leaving the vehicle in the lot while making a purchase in the store. The engine was not running at the time.

Store management is reviewing security video.

Feb. 26: An Otsego Road homeowner reported a tree branch fell and caused damage to the handrails leading to the front door of his home. No damage estimate was available.

Feb. 26: A Marion Road resident reported to police a lost driver’s license.

Feb. 26: An Elmwood Road resident reported he lost his keys and vehicle remote while walking his dog. 

The resident also reported after he lost his keys, he saw the lights on his car and saw an unknown vehicle traveling past his home.
 
Feb. 26: A Glen Ridge man was arrested on drug charges after a police stop at 9:23 p.m.

Emannuel Nissirios was arrested after being stopped by police for an equipment violation.

While speaking with Nissirios, the arresting officer smelled marijuana and requested permission to search the vehicle. Nissirios agreed and the officer found drug paraphernalia.

Nissirios was arrested and taken to police headquarters, processed and released.

Feb. 29: A contractor told police several tools had been stolen in the last two weeks from a Linden Avenue job site where he was working.

Feb. 29: A Kenwood Avenue resident reported receiving several pieces of tampered with mail.

The resident spoke with the senders of the items and it was discovered the envelopes contained cash and a store gift card and several other pieces of mail were never received. 

Feb. 29: A Montclair man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Verona Place.

Joseph Tulko was arrested after police smelled alcohol while speaking with him. He was taken to headquarters, processed and released. 

Feb. 29: A Derwent Avenue resident reported he received a phone call from a tech support company telling him he had a virus on his computer.

The caller told the resident his Microsoft account had a virus and he should turn his computer on while they were on the phone. After asking several questions, the resident became suspicious and turned off the computer and hung up. 

March 1: Verona police were called to a Pompton Avenue business after a verbal dispute between the business owner and a customer.

After speaking with both parties, the customer left the area and was advised not to return. Both parties were advised of complaint procedures.
