Carjacking Suspect Arrested In Pennsylvania

Incident happened in September

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged in connection with a September carjacking from the Route 34 ShopRite parking lot, police said Friday.

Jonathan Garcia, 20, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was found at a family residence on Jan. 31. Garcia waived extradition hearings and was transported back to Wall Township by detectives and lodged in Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, on $75,000 bail, according to a release from Lt. Walter Pomphrey.

Jail records do not show that Garcia was still an inmate on Friday.

The arrest stems from a Sept. 16 incident in the parking lot of the grocery store at Route 34 and Lakewood Road. A Tinton Falls man was loading his groceries into a 2009 silver Pontiac G6 when a man police believe was Garcia jumped into the car and threatened to shoot the owner if he did not get out, according to the release.

The Pontiac was found two months later in Brooklyn by the NYPD, the release said.

Wall Township Police Detectives Victor O’Rourke and Heath Bono conducted a forensic examination of the car as part of their four-month investigation, collecting evidence that lead to the arrest, the release said.

On Dec. 15, an arrest warrant was issued for Garcia, whose last known address was in Staten Island, charging him with 1st degree car jacking. The charge carries a sentece of 10 to 30 years in prison, according to the release.
