Glimmer Glass Bridge Closed for Emergency Repair

Officials closed the bridge Thursday to begin evaluating damage.

On Thursday, the Glimmer Glass Bridge on Fisk Avenue between Brielle and Manasquan was closed for emergency repair work.

“Significant damage to the bridge deck has forced this immediate closure,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The nature of the damage and the repair work requires the closure of the bridge to motor vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.”

The bridge closure will not affect marine traffic. Mariners are advised to exercise caution when passing through the area.

Significant damage to sections of the bridge deck appears to have been caused by a severe overload. The bridge has a posted three ton limit.

County crews were on scene evaluating the extent of the damage. Initial assessments indicate that the repair work may take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
