JCP&L Works To Restore Power To 4,500 In Wall, Spring Lake

JCP&L says "labor intensive" work underway to restore power lost in Wall, Spring Lake areas Sunday. Town to collect storm debris at curb.

WALL, NJ — JCP&L reported that about 4,500 customers in Wall and Spring Lake were out of power on Sunday, a "fairly new outage," according to a utility spokesperson.

Crews were checking the lines on Sunday afternoon, said Chris Hoenig of JCP&L.

The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday that a tornado took place in the "Sea Girt vicinity." Another tornado was confirmed in Howell.

And the Wall area experienced high winds, lightning and hail Saturday night.

The township Sunday asked that residents place all storm related brush and debris at the curb.

Residents should cut up larger limbs into smaller pieces to "help expedite this process," the township said.

A street-by-street pick-up schedule will be posted on Monday, the township said.

JCP&L's Hoenig said the tree damage was "extensive" in the area and he said the utility's repairs are "labor intensive."

On Saturday, lightning from the storm caused a house fire in town, on Magnolia Street in Sea Girt Estates, Wall Mayor Timothy Farrell said Saturday.

Farrell said it appeared that lightning may have struck the house as the storm made its way over Wall and out to the coast. There were no injuries reported in the fire.

Farrell said there was hail in town for about 10 minutes and high winds during the storm with lots of low lightning - one strike after another.

Also on Saturday night, a small passenger jet slid off the runway upon landing at Monmouth Executive Airport.

Police said there were no injuries to the pilot and copilot, the only people on board the Cessna Citation X. Police and Glendola Fire Company responded, police said Saturday.

The airport is closed until further notice, police said Saturday.
