NJDOT Announces Overnight Rt. 34 Lane Closures For Paving
This work will see the paving of the new roadway built over the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway.

WALL, NJ – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials said that certain lanes of Route 34 would be closed in both directions overnight Wednesday as the Route 34 Bridge over Former Freehold and Jamesburg Railroad/Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway replacement project in Wall nears completion.
Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 until 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, NJDOT’s contractor, Green Construction, will close a single southbound lane of traffic on Route 34 between Atlantic Avenue and Paynters Road to pave the new roadway. Paving will continue alternating between Route 34 north and southbound until both lanes in both directions are paved. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
Next week, paving work will continue on the shoulders in both directions. In addition, the Dynamic Message Sign will become operational, which will provide motorist information.

Final paving of the road completes construction of the $9.7 million federally-funded Route 34 Bridge over the Former Freehold and Jamesburg Railroad, now the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway project. However, minor work may continue over the next few weeks.
The Route 34 Bridge spans the 5.5-mile Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway, which reopened in August. A new culvert was constructed under the roadway to accommodate the bike path. The new road has two standard 12-foot lanes in each direction and 10-foot wide shoulders instead of 10-foot lanes with two-foot shoulders. The roadway profile was also lowered to improve sight distance for added safety.
