Route 34 Bridge Project Close To Completion Says NJDOT
According to an NJDOT official, the project, which has been going on since 2019, was done in stages to minimize public impact.

WALL, NJ – After being closed for almost two years, a portion of the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway is scheduled to be reopened later this summer, according to a spokesperson from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
The closing was done due to the project to widen the Route 34 bridge that goes over the bike path, which stretches from Manasquan to Allaire State Park, which was started back in September of 2019 and done in stages to minimize the impact on drivers.
According to NJDOT officials, utility and drainage work have been completed, and a new culvert beneath the existing bridge was built. The NJDOT also had to tear down the outer portions of the bridge deck, and when the project is completed, there will be two 12-foot lanes going in each direction along with 10-foot-wide shoulders.

Over the next few weeks, the center portion of the bridge and remaining drainage systems will be demolished and reconstructed. A retention basin will also be constructed and a Dynamic Message Sign installed to keep drivers informed.
The project is currently projected to be completed sometime this fall.
