Small Jet Slides Off Wall Airport Runway, No Injuries Reported: Mayor

Wall mayor says Saturday storm contributed to a house fire in town and there was also a plane skid at a local airport. No injuries reported.

WALL, NJ — A small passenger jet slid off the runway upon landing at Monmouth Executive Airport Saturday night, Mayor Timothy Farrell confirmed, but no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, lightning from the Saturday night storm also caused a house fire in town, on Magnolia Street, he said. He said no injuries were reported in that incident either.

Regarding the fire, Farrell said it appeared that lightning may have struck the house in Sea Girt Estates as the storm made its way over Wall and out to the coast.

He said there was hail in town for about 10 minutes and high winds during the storm with lots of low lightning - one strike after another.

"It was a pretty wild night," he said.

Regarding the airplane incident, Farrell could not say definitively if it was caused by the storm, but he said he believes the plane may have been damaged.

Police reported last night that they and the Glendola Fire Company went to the airport for the report of the jet - a Cessna Citation X - that left the runway upon landing.

Police said all occupants were safe without injuries.

The airport will remain closed until the outcome of the investigation, police said.

The airport did not immediately respond to a request for information about the incident.

Farrell said he understands the small passenger jet only had a pilot and co-pilot on board and there were no injuries.
