Township Committee: Animal Feeding Measure Slated For Tonight

Ordinance outgrowth of neighborhood dispute

The Township Committee is expected to introduce an ordinance at tonight’s meeting that would regulate wildlife feeding, according to the agenda.

The ordinance, which has engendered opposition for and against the measure, is borne from an unresolved dispute among residents in a South Wall neighborhood.

At the center of the feud is Narrumson Road resident Marc Vitale, who, several neighbors over the course of months have said, feeds birds and other wildlife to excess and thereby disrupts the neighborhood peace.

Vitale has denied that he has done anything illegal and that his neighbors are making much ado about nothing.

Township Committeeman George Newberry has publicly expressed his displeasure with the ordinance, but has said he believes it may be necessary.

Also expected to address the council tonight is Eric Stiles, chief operating officer of the New Jersey Audubon Society.

The Township Committee is scheduled to meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, 2700 Allaire Ave. The agenda is attached to this story.
