Wall Intermediate School Moves Remote After Rise In COVID Numbers

A total of 27 new positive cases were detected recently. The school is scheduled to reopen for in-person classes next Monday.

WALL, NJ — Wall Intermediate School will turn to virtual instruction until next week due to a rise in COVID-19 numbers, principal Erin Embon and Superintendent of Schools Tracy Handerhan announced in a joint statement on Tuesday.

During the three days before the announcement, 27 new positive cases were detected within the school community, officials said. There was also a "very high" number of quarantines.

The school is scheduled to reopen for in-person classes next Monday.

"Please understand that WIS’s COVID-19 data will be reviewed towards the end of this week with local health officials to confirm this tentative reopening date," officials said.

This "short-term pivot" will only apply to Wall Intermediate School and students in other schools in the district will continue going to in-person classes, according to the announcement.

The decision to move Wall Intermediate School to virtual classes was in part due to a recommendation from the local-area health department, officials said.

Virtual instruction days will start at 8:10 a.m. and end at 12:20 p.m. Students who are not logged on will be marked absent.

Students should follow the grade level bell schedule detailed in the announcement letter posted on the school's website

There will be no lunch period. However, lunch will be available for students who are identified through the State of NJ Department Free and Reduced Meal program and they will be sent additional correspondence to order meals for the remainder of the week.

Officials asked the school community to follow a number of best practices for COVID-19 transmission prevention, including staying home when you are sick, washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds, practicing proper social distancing and monitoring for symptoms.
