The Honda was gone before the officers got on scene. But they met with the homeowner who confirmed they were not expecting anyone. A check of all the cars parked in the driveway also showed nothing stolen or damaged.

While officers were checking the area, they observed a silver car, possibly a BMW, traveling west on Belmar Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

Officers tried to stop the speeding vehicle, but the driver increased the speed of the vehicle in a clear attempt to elude police, the department said. It was heading west on Belmar Boulevard near West Minster Lane.

Police said they do not know if the two incidents are connected. But with recent car burglaries, car thefts and catalytic converter thefts, police regularly ask residents to report suspicious activity to police and to secure their homes and cars.
