The suspect, later identified as Kniffin, had entered the bank armed with a loaded handgun and demanded money before fleeing with thousands of dollars in cash, police said.

Within minutes of the incident, Wall Township Police said they found Kniffin utilizing a suspect description provided by witnesses and then apprehended him in the driveway of his home.

According to a federal complaint, Kniffin told police, "I'm so sorry, I got myself in a lot of trouble, I didn't know what else to do." He was arrested after police retrieved a loaded firearm from him and over $17,000 in cash, authorities said.

Following his arrest, members of the Wall Township Police Department, in collaboration with the FBI Jersey Shore Safe Streets Task Force and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, conducted an investigation that included executing search warrants, canvassing for surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses.

As a result of the investigation, police said Kniffin was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree possession of prohibited weapons and devices (hollow-nose/dum-dum ammunition).

Wall Township Detective John Spinapont (assigned to the FBI Jersey Shore Safe Streets Task Force) then presented the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, resulting in federal charges and Tuesday’s guilty plea.

Kniffin is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court on Nov. 24, police said. The count of armed bank robbery carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
