Somerset County announced its annual “Curbing Hunger” food drive is set to kick off next week.
The county will be holding a press conference regarding the commencement of the 21st annual “Curbing Hunger” food drive on Monday, June 1 at 11:30 a.m. at the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, located at 9E Easy St. in Bound Brook. Canned food donations will be accepted this year at the curb regularly or at each county recycling day from June 1 through June 26, according to Somerset County officials.
The “Curbing Hunger” food drive in Somerset County was founded in 1995 and this year’s program has partnered with agencies in Essex, Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Union, Sussex, Morris, Warren and Hunterdon counties.

Somerset County officials said the need for donations is still high due to a lagging economy and because supplies are often low during non-holiday periods. Additionally, demand increases during the summer months as children are not in school and do not receive subsidized school lunches, county officials said.
The June 1 press conference will feature a number of representatives, including New Jersey State Senator Kip Bateman; members of the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Food Bank Network Executive Director Marie Scannell and Curbing Hunger Inc. board members.
