$1M Bid Accepted For Property That Wayne Schools No Longer Needs

The Wayne BOE had a public sale for this tract of land along Valley Road back in 2022 and didn't receive any bids; another buyer came forth.

WAYNE, NJ — After putting it up for sale two years ago, the Wayne Township School Board has agreed to sell a 10-acre parcel of land on Valley Road for $1 million.

The school district owned the vacant lot, and did not receive any bids after holding a public sale for the property in 2022, board documents. Private buyers came forth, and the Board approved the purchase and sale agreement on July 11.

The parcel of land at 145 Valley Road, referred to as the Shinman Property, "is no longer needed for school purposes," board documents stated. This 9.85-acre property is zoned for single-family residences, and it is not immediately clear what the three new owners plan to use the land for.

As the Daily Record reported, Wayne voters approved a $300,000 referendum back in 1971 to purchase this property, which officials were then considering as a site for a new elementary school.

Patch had asked for more information on the site's history before that meeting, and got no response from the district.

Officials also did not discuss the sale agreement before approving it.
