Paterson Man, 82, Charged With First-Degree Attempted Murder
Clark J. Thomas could be in prison until his mid-90s, if found guilty.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — An 82-year-old Paterson man was charged with first-degree attempted murder after he allegedly shot another man Tuesday, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office announced.
Clark J. Thomas was arrested after an investigation into a 58-year-old man being shot near Lyon Street, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said in a news release.
Police found the victim with a non-fatal gunshot wound, and he was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, Valdes said.

Thomas was identified as the shooter and was arrested at the scene, Valdes said.
Thomas faces between 10 and 20 years in state prison on the attempted murder charge and must serve at least eight and a half years of that sentence and five yeas of supervised probation if found guilty. He faces another five- to 10-year sentence on the weapon charge, and 42 months of parole supervision, Valdes said.

Thomas is in custody in the Passaic County Jail. The state will file a motion for pretrial detention in the case, which a Superior Court judge will hear.
