Dozens Displaced, Including Students, In 5-Alarm North Jersey Fire

A local councilman is collecting winter clothes and blankets for the international students; the Red Cross is also helping residents.

PATERSON, NJ — A massive fire in Paterson on Sunday damaged three residential buildings and left dozens of people displaced, officials said.

The five-alarm blaze broke out along the 400 block of Totowa Avenue around 5:30 p.m., according to Paterson Fire officials. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross said it is assisting 49 people from 13 households who were affected by the fire. That included six children, according to Mayor Andre Sayegh.

Among those residents are a number of international students who are currently staying in a hotel, according to Paterson Councilman-At-Large MD Forid Uddin.
