FEMA Awards Wayne $31 Million in Severe Repetitive Loss

The money "will go towards the acquisition of 114 homes throughout the township's flood-prone areas."

Flood-prone Wayne has been awarded $31,476,299 by FEMA - the largest payout FEMA’s Severe Repetitive Loss program has ever paid out.

The money “will go towards the acquisition of 114 homes throughout the township’s flood-prone areas, including Riverlawn Drive, Riverside Drive, Edith Court, Hobson Avenue and Fayette Avenue,” according to Wayne Today. The funds will also cover the purchase of properties, demolition and consultant and appraiser services.

The goal is to demolish the homes and make them deed restricted so that nothing can be built. That will allow the area to go back to a natural state and absorb some of the flood waters, according to Wayne Today.
