WAYNE, NJ — One of Wayne Township's volunteer fire companies is organizing a new fundraiser in memory of one of their own, longtime fireman Greg Velardi Jr.

Velardi was a member of the Property Owner's League (P.O.L.) Fire Company #2 for 42 years, and served as both chief and president during his time with the company. He died on Oct. 14, 2022.

He was also a member and co-owner of the Metropolitan Cigar Club in Fairfield, as his brother Frank (the current Wayne fire commissioner) noted to Patch.

"One of his favorite past-times was smoking cigars with his nephews and friends," Frank said of his brother. "He also loved events like beefsteaks and fund raisers where he could spend time with family and friends, and give back to the community."
