Fundraiser Launched For Son Left Motherless After Wrong-Way I-80 Crash

Funds will go towards the woman's funeral and towards the support of her three-year-old son.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A GoFundMe has been launched after a 24-year-old mother was killed in a wrong-way crash this week in Passaic County.

Imani Furman was one of two people killed in a Monday morning crash that also injured others, including her mother and her three-year-old son.

Also killed was a 30-year-old Newark firefighter named Albin Fermin, who was the one driving on the wrong side of I-80 in Totowa before the crash, police said.

“(Furman’s) passing at just 24 years old means she will never get to see Messiah grow up, go to school, or experience the milestones every parent dreams of,” the GoFundMe reads. “The loss is unimaginable for our family, and we are doing our best to honor her memory and support her son in the days ahead.”

So far, the fundraiser has garnered roughly $1,200.

Furman is described as a “vibrant, multi-talented young woman who could sing, dance, and do makeup like a professional.”
