Man Accused Of Slashing Victim's Neck: Passaic County Prosecutor

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Paterson man accused of slashing another man's neck is behind bars, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday. Hector Santiago, 54, is facing multiple charges, including first-degree attempted murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.
On Thursday around 12:09 p.m., authorities said a Passaic County sheriff’s officer was flagged down by the victim, a 59-year-old Paterson resident, in the area of Grand Street.
According to prosecutors, the victim suffered a large laceration to the neck and was transported to
Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.

His condition is unknown at this time.
An investigation ultimately led the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office to Santiago where he was taken into custody.

Prosecutors said if convicted on the first degree murder charge, Santiago could face 10 to 20 years in prison with 85 percent of the term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the "No Early Release Act" and five years parole supervision upon release.
