Man Had 85 Bags Of Heroin In Car: Wayne Police

Police found the heroin during a traffic stop on Route 23 Wednesday night, authorities said.

WAYNE, NJ — A North Jersey man had 85 bags of heroin in his car when police stopped him on Route 23 recently, authorities said.

Ara Kouyoumdjian, 34, of Butler, was charged with possession of heroin, failure to surrender a controlled dangerous substance to police, and two drug possession charges, said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin.

Police stopped Kouyoumdjian on Route 23 North when they saw his 2000 Ford Taurus for equipment violations and an overdue inspection, Martin said.

Police saw narcotics packaging in the vehicle and found 85 glassine bags of heroin stamped "I am back" in blue ink, Martin said. They also found drug paraphernalia, including two hypodermic needles, he said.

Kouyoumdjian was taken to the Passaic County Jail.
