Man Wielding Swords Shot By Police In Wayne, Officials Say
Police were called for a welfare check at a Wayne home on Friday night and encountered a man armed with two swords, authorities said.
WAYNE, NJ — A police officer shot a man who was wielding twin swords at a Wayne home on Friday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
Wayne PD officers were called to a home on White Birch Court for a welfare check, shortly before 10 p.m. on Feb. 14. They came in contact with a 34-year-old township resident who was armed with two swords, officials said.
Authorities said a Wayne officer fired their service weapon, striking the man. First responders took him to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office did not provide any more details about why police were called to the home, or what exactly led up to the shooting. Per state law, the Attorney General's Office has also been notified.
"The investigation into this matter, including the use of force by police, remains active and ongoing," a spokesperson said. "At this time, further information will not be released so as not to jeopardize the investigation in progress."
