Road Reopens After Overnight Barricade Situation In Wayne

A person is reportedly in custody after a 12-hour standoff along Preakness Avenue.

WAYNE, NJ — A section of Preakness Avenue was closed for more than 12 hours as police negotiated with a man barricaded inside his home, according to officials and reports.

Wayne Police closed Preakness between Laauwe and Garside Avenues at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the "critical incident," and did not say the road was back open until after noon on Thursday.

The man surrendered peacefully on Thursday morning and officers stayed on scene to investigate, Chief Joseph Rooney told TAPinto Wayne. There have been no injuries reported.

Police had asked residents in the immediate vicinity to remain indoors and away from the windows. The Passaic County Sheriff's Office also was on scene.
